Business Challenge

For one of the nation's largest food processors, provided the technical team leadership for a large scale Cyborg to SAP HR implementation.

Responsibilities included leading the effort associated with implementing the reports, interfaces, conversions, and enhancements.

As a part of these efforts, developed estimates and plans for completing the technical work required, designed the technical architecture used for extracting data from Cyborg and loading it into SAP, and led the effort associated with formalizing the coding standards and code review process used for developing the programs required.

Once all programs were developed and successfully unit, string, and system tested, led the effort required for preparing the final go-live "checklist" which contained over three hundred steps.

A breakdown of all the programs required follows:

Program Type Number Percentage
Report 126 53%
Interface 58 24%
Conversion 23 10%
Enhancement 31 13%
  238

Results

From an overall project perspective, the system was rolled out on time and within budget. After go-live, no major issues were encountered and the Client’s Executive Team was very pleased with the overall implementation.

Key Considerations

For reports, given the volume of employees in the system and the large number of reports required, performance issues had to be addressed through the program designs.

For conversions, a sample set of employees were loaded with our conversion programs. Mock payroll’s were run and the results were compared back to those generated by Cyborg. Errors identified through the compare process were classified into one of three types: configuration errors, programming errors, or data errors. Configuration errors required changes to the SAP system and the way it functioned. Programming errors required changes to the programs that loaded data from Cyborg into SAP. Lastly, data errors required a “cleaning” effort back in Cyborg where things like invalid zip codes were corrected and then re-extracted.

Once our sample set successfully processed, all employees were loaded and mock payrolls were again run to identify any additional errors and to confirm production runtimes did not exceed those of the legacy system.

For enhancements, given the large number required, special consideration was given to our designs in order to minimize the impact of future upgrades to the system.
