Business Challenge

For one of the nation's largest network communications suppliers, provided the project management for a global SAP Business Warehouse (BW) implementation.

Because numerous custom reports were already implemented under SAP R/3 and were negatively impacting system performance, we were tasked with reviewing those R/3 reports and assessing the feasibility of migrating some of them to BW.

Responsibilities included leading the efforts associated with the initial BW feasibility study as well as the follow-on implementation effort.

Results

  Developed a business case demonstrating the positive impact of a BW implementation.

  Implemented various standards and procedures for on-going BW usage following the ASAP methodology.

  Established over sixteen BW Objects-- Infocubes, ODS Structures, etc.-- for our initial release.

  As a part of the process of migrating reports off of the R/3 system, initially implemented over thirty standard BW reports which accessed the Infocubes and ODS structures established.

  Identified training candidates and prepared the required materials to train those BW users.

  Empowered users with much more reporting capability and flexibility with the availability of BW.

  Improved the performance of the R/3 system as a result of migrating some reports to BW.

  Implemented on time and within budget.

Key Considerations

For this process to be successful, a detailed analysis of the each R/3 report was conducted and a thorough assessment was made to determine whether or not a given report could and should be replicated under BW.
